I really like that Gmail allows you to set custom icons for your contacts, as well as making it easy to suggest pictures to them. A lot of people don't even know that they have an icon associated with their mail or chat, so they just have the default. Turning the data management into a social function that can be initiated by any group's single member with a lack of social life (me) is a brilliant implementation.
