Tax credits to spur new IP drive in France // GamesIndustry.biz:
"By giving the green light to France's proposal, the EU commission has recognised for the first time that games are a form of cultural expression, very much like movies. This is an historical moment."

"I do believe it will generate sufficient cash-flow for studios to conceive and prototype new IPs at an important moment in the new cycle, namely the end of 2008 beginning of 2009," he stated.
It looks like this may become an EU-wide development, as well. Good grief, what's next? Recognizing games as art?

well not that I say they should be recognized as art but some of them do contain some wonderful visuals and design...

Rez comes to mind almost as an art.
Maybe art that is extra exciting on E or acid,
but then that connection with art is that more solidified. Right? haha.

I think that games are just a form of media, like film, TV, books... whether or not it's art depends on the interpretation of the person experiencing it.
