Via a lower hive of scum and villainy you will never find, Ain't It Cool News: Purportedly the teaser trailer for an upcoming Star Wars animated series. It does not look promising. On the other hand, the charity raffle for an autographed copy of Kevin Rubio's graphic novel sounds like a worthy thing.

May 25, 2007

In celebration of the 30th Anniversary of STAR WARS, I am auctioning off a copy of my Dark Horse graphic novel Star Wars: Tag & Bink Were Here, on e-bay’s charity site – “Mission Fish”.

It is the story of two rebel pilots who avoid capture on board Princess Leia’s ship, The Rebel Blockade Runner, by disguising themselves as Stormtroopers. This leads them on an adventure through the galaxy – crossing paths with every major character in the STAR WARS universe, and affecting the fate of all they encounter.

The Tag & Bink series was named one of the top five STAR WARS comics of all time, by Wizards Magazine. They also included the graphic novel on their 2007 list of “must have comics for your collection”. In addition, The American Library Association named the T&BWH one of the best graphic novels of 2006.

The copy that I am putting up for auction was made available by the generous contributions of Dark Horse Publishing and Lucasfilm Limited. It contains all four episodes in the series and has been signed by myself, the artist Lucas Marangon, my two brothers (on whom Tag & Bink are modeled after) and the creator of the STAR WARS UNIVERSE himself – George Lucas!

A letter from LFL will be included in the sale of the graphic novel to attest to the signatures authenticity and all proceeds from this auction will go to NARSAD - The largest donor-supported organization in the world dedicated to supporting research on brain and behavior disorders. Their mission is to raise and distribute funding for the most promising psychiatric research in order to develop new preventative measures, better diagnoses and improved treatments for severe mental illnesses.

This is a tax-deductible donation.

Many Thanks,

Kevin Rubio

I went to college with Kevin; he's the guy who created TROOPS, the Star Wars COPS parody that started the fan-film rush. He's a stand-up guy and very sharp. (thanks, [profile] weezie13 )

Update: FAKE Here's the real one. (thanks, [profile] andrewv!)

There's no way that thing is real. Way too crappy IMO, even for GL. :)

I'm hoping (hoping, hoping, hoping) and praying (prayin' prayin' prayin') that you're right. The only way it could really be that crappy is if they're concentrating on being able to push out a bulk of episodes quickly. That said, it's not close enough to The Clone Wars style, and the selling point there was the emotive faces and action-packed animation. This has... neither.

Ye Cats!

I remember when seeing anything Star Wars excited my nerd humours in a dangerous cascade of geektitude!

That? That actually bored me!

I know those days well, and they are far behind me as well. The best thing that can be said of the prequels is that Revenge of the Sith made Return of the Jedi suck a little less.

I'm really hoping that was some animation major's senior design project.

Seriously.

It turns out to be fake. Thank goodness. The real one is posted below.

I posted it on another board and was told it was fake.

Update: starwars.com just posted http://www.starwars.com/video/view/000478.html which is real.

Bless your heart; my faith is, perhaps misguidedly, restored.
