While I'm glad he's out, JV seemed a lot more spry of mind and candid than I'd expected. Most people are portraying him as an idiot. When I'm that old, I hope I can pretend to know what current technology is.
Let me be clear, though: I'm not fond of being treated like a criminal for exercising my rights as a consumer. I'm pissed off like no-one's business everytime the MPAA or RIAA attempts to couch any form of piracy, any form of use of their IP in a way that they're not 100% comfortable with, as an act of terrorism or reefer-madness (http://www.boingboing.net/2004/05/05/riaa_control_your_p2.html). I get even more irate when they then turn around and take advantage of their golden geese (http://www.boingboing.net/2004/05/05/record_companies_for.html) using the opposite side of the same court system. More and more, I hope the first ones up against the wall are the go-betweeners and do-nothings of the Copyright Industry.
