breaking the rut
Apr. 26th, 2005 02:27 pm(music link; Summer at Shatter Creek is also very good.)
GodDAMNIT my head hurts. My neck, too. I've got some collossal bags under my eyes. I'm guessing I didn't sleep well, but I don't remember flailing about or waking up at all. What the HECK?!
I've been trying to break out of a rut -- having a new kid in our life has been instructive in just how much things can change, as well as removing even more time from an already scarcity-of-spare-time-centric schedule. I've been drawing in the evenings, "working out" in snatches here and there, using the building's otherwise unoccupied stairwell to mess about, and reading tons about the state of the games industry. I should be getting healthier and feeling more at ease; I guess my impending contract renewal at the end of the month, a decision beyond my control, is trumping any progress I'm making personally. So frequently I think about Viktor Frankl's concept that we don't get to choose our situation, only our reaction to it. For me it appears to be time to "walk the talk."
While I'm sharing about music and pain, here is The Terrible Mr. Grimshaw (.mp3); I used to work with this guy.
(edit) Oh, but about the rut, today I went out to find a new lunch place. So much good food in Osaka (part of the reason I'm needing to work out more), but I tend to only patronize a few places for lunch. So today I went to a new place with a couple co-workers. This new place took 25 minutes or so to show up with our Dry Curry Pilaf, which I know is simply some frozen stuff in a bag. What the hell? So much for trying new things today.
