stop pickin' on me

These "Pickin' on ____" albums are a guilty pleasure of mine. Pickin' on the '80s (see current music) is a recent purchase, but I've been in love with Pickin' on Pink Floyd for a good while. Maybe it's the classic country music fan in me (not modern country, ew, no not that) or maybe it's the mashup fan, or the humor in it... but it's great.

Dear LazyLiveJournal,
I can't find a way to search my own LJ. Is there a way to do it? Or is that one of those mean-spiritedly reserved for payin' customer features?

There's LJSeek, but it's far from perfect.

Ooh, thanks. Actually, I suddenly remembered Macs have XJournal, so I downloaded that, shlurped my whole 5 years' of posts, and searched locally. "VIOLA," as the frogs say. And the Quebecois, I suppose.

I didn't know you could search LJ and I've had a Permanent Account for years. o_O

Yay for good old country music! I'm not a fan of bluegrass as much, but some of it's great. Have you heard of Charlene Arthur? I love her! I lost my Bear Family compilation CD of her, though, and now it's out of print. Boo. Hiss.

Yeah, I love old country like this. Thanks! I listen to Patsy Cline and am even willing to go as modern as Willy Nelson and Waylon Jennings, but all of this recent "mullets and well-trimmed-beards" crowd stuff can take a flying leap. Sorry to hear about your CD. I thought to crawl eMusic.com for some DRM-free files, as they might have something like this. They excel where the copyright may have lapsed, or be owned by someone other than a major label -- but no luck.

I <3 Waylon Jennings!

Thanks for looking for Charlene music for me. If I ever find another copy (for less than $60), I'll burn it for you. She is made of so much awesome.

For modern old style country music, you might also check out Roger Wallace, and the first three albums by The Derailers (Jackpot, Reverb Deluxe, and Full Western Dress). And you're familiar with BR5-49, yes?

I am unaware of all of these peeps. Thanks!

The Derailers are on Amazon's MP3 store, and have the albums you mentioned.

Wallace is on eMusic -- anything in particular you recommend?

Hillbilly Heights (his first album) is the best, IMO. It features a fine, fine murder ballad and another song co-written by Kris Kristofferson and Shel Silverstein. o_O !
