These "Pickin' on ____" albums are a guilty pleasure of mine. Pickin' on the '80s (see current music) is a recent purchase, but I've been in love with Pickin' on Pink Floyd for a good while. Maybe it's the classic country music fan in me (not modern country, ew, no not that) or maybe it's the mashup fan, or the humor in it... but it's great.

Dear LazyLiveJournal,
I can't find a way to search my own LJ. Is there a way to do it? Or is that one of those mean-spiritedly reserved for payin' customer features?

Listening to Britney Spears' "Fillin' Me Up" (stop laughing, it's a great song) I kept thinking she was covering something from a different song, but I couldn't place it. After a good listening, I realized it it follows a similar melody to the chorus from "My Eyes" in Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along-Blog. "Listen close to everybody's heart, and hear that breaking soooound."

I require a mashup. Some of you must have skills -- go on: I triple-dog-dare you.

Of note: Sony/BMG, like many copyright holders, is now officially promoting their artists on YouTube. This is good because stuff goes up there officially, and it's available for viewing without having to go to Sony/BMG's site and navigate through crap and use whatever crappy player they've got going - it allows use of YouTube/Google's search function to find what you want, instead of having to go back and forth on the publisher's site, maybe finding it, maybe missing it even if it's there.

On the other hand, they'll almost certainly be increasingly vigilant about keeping other users away from uploading their own unedited recordings of the artists they represent (not a major problem), as well as the co-opted use of those music recordings in fan videos, use as background in collage videos, and who knows? Maybe they'll even go after young girls lip-syncing Pixies songs - how wrong! But in all seriousness, with the entry of big copyright holders into a realm that has burgeoned under use by casual users, I hope they don't sic the lawyerhounds on the other users, because there's already enough chilling effect on people's ability to interact with the media they love, and share it in their own way.

LOO and PLACIDO producer | remixer | dj duo: These guys are some of my favorite mashup DJs, and their "MASHMIX" podcast has a fabuloso ~90 minutes of non-stop ass-shakin' mix that just went up; I also noticed that they've got time-limited mashies up for grab. So... grab 'em!

"I find it kinda funny / I find it kinda sad": Special linky-dink for [livejournal.com profile] jjgalahad  - [livejournal.com profile] deathboy  has remixed Gary Jules' version of Mad World and a track from Rez to make "a track that doesn't make me sob anymore." It is groovy and charming.

[livejournal.com profile] evilgenius is touting the glory of Go Home Productions' Rapture Riders, which is apparently now so popular that is has been removed from free download status at the composers' site and only available for sale on CD, various pay-for-download sites, and also at the iTunes Music Store UK. I managed to find one place that has the MP3 still hanging out for free download (.mp3), so I share it with you here. It is teh s3x.
