nobody walks in L.A.

E3 is DONE. I have no idea what the aftermath of the event will be, because Gamespot is too graphic-heavy a site to dick-with over a 56k dialup, which is the fate to which I'm currently relegated.
It's not often I miss the US. I fear the strange obsession/oppression dynamic that seems to be the lifeblood of a culture that has kudzu'd completely past its strict religious background into an imperial mess akin to the heyday of the Romans'. There's all manner of terror associated with the spectre of child abuse, local crime, and of course there is also the thought of how casually Bush and his cronies have trod and urinated upon most of the laws and philosophies that make America great. Provided he can be ousted in the next election, we are going to have a long crawl back from the disgraceful hole we've dug for ourselves.
However this trip has reminded me about a lot of the good things here in the US. It goes without saying that seeing friends that I've missed for many months is very welcome. However, I saw other things that made me feel very warmly toward my fellow Americans. I saw a lot of smiles, hugs, and consideration. There was individuality beyond a subculture-uniform level. I guess mainly I'm enjoying the smiles though, which are more present than I remembered, and more welcome than I'd expected.
It's been a good trip; my Hope Tank has been partially refilled.

Date: 2004-05-16 05:38 pm (UTC)You survived! Hurrah!
And how went the more business-y side of things? Was it also fruitful?

Date: 2004-05-16 07:38 pm (UTC)However, the kitty approved of a tactic that I'd half-mentioned as a joke; so I used that and it turned out to be a good one. So, yeah. Thanks. The biz stuff went pretty well, in terms of pitching from my new position. On the other hand, I had NO luck looking for gold-in-the-dregs of Kentia, Hall of Shame. There was nothing of interest there this year. It wasn't even pathetic, it was just "enh."

Date: 2004-05-17 01:10 am (UTC)By the way...I just finished reading the articles you linked to.
One of them, for reasons which should seem obvious, hit rather close to home. Thanks for linking it. It was, in a painful way, beautiful.

Date: 2004-05-17 11:04 pm (UTC)I'm pretty excited about Dead Rush, which looks like GTA-meets-a-zombie-movie. No kidding. Escape from New York and Army of Darkness riffs throughout it. Prince of Persia 2 looks teh sexay; more of all the good stuff, and apparently they're refining the combat system to give it more personality. It looks gorgeous. Call of Duty's new console line looks really interesting, but their demonstrator had some hit-resolution issues: He unloaded a half clip from a machinegun into a Nazi at point blank range, and the Nazi forgot to fall down. The Nazi killed him instead. We were excused.
There were a digital-TON of 3rd person shooters, which all looked like 1st person shooters with your avatar taking up 1/3 of the screenspace with his upper body. I'm not counting Splinter Cell or Starcraft: Ghost. I'm talking about games that literally appear to be making a FPS with a marching guy obscuring part of the screen --- except that guy is you!!!
One place had Bluetooth Xbox controllers. If they can make PS2 controllers w/ BT, I'll be very happy.

Date: 2004-05-17 11:50 pm (UTC)I'll keep an eye out for Dead Rush and the game where I get to see my head explode and hear my grunt of pain when I get shot!
Not being super gamer guy and all, I apologize in advance for the blank stare of disdain I'm about to receive - but what's the diff with Bluetooth? Superplusgood, I take it? I've heard the name around but can't put a face to it.
