Constructive Mayhem - "The rules of this game: Comment (in this case ask here) and I pick three of your interests and three of your user icons, and ask you to talk about them.":
LJ icons:
When I first joined LJ I just did it to read friends' journals. I was convinced that there was nothing but abject misery, whining, and drama going on here. Choosing Derek Zoolander as a theme for my LJ icons was meant to be self-mocking. I trot out Magnum whenever I say something that is lewd, biting, or hoped-to-be-perceived as insightful. Furious, from the movie Mystery Men, is for when I'm spazzing out about a topic, or making fun of myself for getting worked up over nothing.
"Well, this is fun. I have no idea what some fo the things in your interests list are.Interests:
Interests: Improper dancing, swarf, and whatever that two character one is last in your list.
images: default, magnum, furious"
- Improper Dancing is very similar to Geek Dancing. It's the kind of largely arrhythmic and unselfconscious dancing that simultaneously attracts small children, like a somatic version of the Pied Piper, and repulses potential lovers. So if you're interested in going home alone, this is the kind of dancing for you. Though it is the only kind of dancing I have ever performed, it has only come to public attention in recent years through Elaine's dancing on Seinfeld (YouTube), as well as the venerable web classic How to Dance Properly by ZeFrank.
- Swarf is a luscious vocal/electronic band from the UK. I suspect their name comes from the industrial jargon, which are shavings and leftover bits from metalworking. I learned of them through Warren Ellis' site, and have kept up with their stuff through LJ, where their lead singer keeps her blog, and
in_the_lathe, where Swarf posts band news. They offered their music for online purchase through the now-defunct mp3ria without DRM; if you're interested in hearing them, there are clips and free live tracks at their site and full songs can be heard through their MySpace player. But no one in their right mind recommends a visit to MySpace. (shudder)
- The two-character entry at the end of my list is "Nihon" (or the older pronunciation "Nippon") which means "Japan." The pronunciation of those characters in Chinese, "Jipang" provides the international pronuciation of my host country's name.

interests: glasses chains, moggies, memory
Jungle Helicopters, Hawtness, and Kittehs
I think Glasses Chains give a girl that hot librarian look.
Moggies, which is what some Brits call cats, are one of the things that make life bearable. If I go on to say how much cats and their silly antics enrich my life, postpone suicide, and make joy happen, it could go on for pages, so I will stop there
Plushbus is one of those dumb ripoff "crane picks up cheap toy made in china" games I saw at the local overpriced lame cinema with the emetic popcorn. Because we have so many longstanding jokes about plush cats and such, that word is loaded with humor.
'Stripes is a close-up of a picture posted by the person who has that user ID, so naming it that was my way of crediting them for that incredibly Hawt pic. But if they ask me to erase my copy and stop using it, I will of course.
JustSayNo is an icon I found on some Russian site that I added just to get

Are you not wanting to spread this meme? I'd (humbly) suggest you drop a copy of this in your LJ if you've got the energy to do it for other people.

Interests: You make it hard to choose, so I'll go with an alphabetic grouping: geisha, graffiti, guns
Icons: Dude, seriously: What's with all the monkeys?
no subject
Geisha: The rigor of the lifestyle seems so at odds with the concept of "performer" or "artist" as we're familiar with it. That, along with the visual artifice, intrigues me.
Graffiti: Cities are scary things, potentially, and tags or murals put where they aren't "supposed" to be seem like a way to liberate "owned" space and, at base, to make one's mark. In addition, there's nothing more fun than hopping into the car on a Saturday afternoon and looking for new tags. Good way to spend a few hours.
Guns: I grew up in a military family, so I grew up with the idea of Gun firmly lodged in my brain. I'm not a gun nut by any chance (I own a pistol, and I keep it in a locked case with two gun-locks on it), but I enjoy shooting and I like the aesthetic and conceptual power of the gun.
Monkeys: I just like monkeys. Is that so wrong?
When I worked news and did the newspaper design thing, I'd always do a monkey draft of the paper... while I was waiting to get photos, I'd flow in pictures of monkeys so I'd have my spacing right. Thus, I had a crapload of monkey pics floating around and decided to put them to use.
I had a crapload of monkey pics floating around, though, because I'm big on simians. Great apes or monkeys, terrestrial or arboreal, Old World or New. I just dig on simians. I'm more of a baboon guy, truth be told, but I'm a fan of the monkey in general.

I still get torn about what things I should put up, and what I should not, even with a friend-lock. The whole thing with Frienditto made me reconsider the security of LJ.
Are you signing up to be memed here, or what?

Frienditto was a social networking (past-tense; after thirty seconds of googling, it appears Frienditto has died) that allowed people to archive LJ and Craigslist entries that they could see. So say User A has been friended by User B. Anything that User A could see, they could copy to Frienditto's server archive. That meant that User B's friends-locked entry could be copied to a public server.
However this functionality can be implemented by anyone who has mastered Copy-and-Paste; the internet is basically made to share information. The Frienditto problem was largely that it automated the feature, as well as casually breaking an author's copyright.
Here's an interesting take on it:

You only have one, and I have no questions about it; I recognize that guy!

You have four. One of them is videogames. I feel... that I understand your love of videogames (though perhaps not to the same degree ;-) ). Care to expound on the virtues of the other three: Music, Photography, Soccer.
