Interests:

• Improper Dancing is very similar to Geek Dancing. It's the kind of largely arrhythmic and unselfconscious dancing that simultaneously attracts small children, like a somatic version of the Pied Piper, and repulses potential lovers. So if you're interested in going home alone, this is the kind of dancing for you. Though it is the only kind of dancing I have ever performed, it has only come to public attention in recent years through Elaine's dancing on Seinfeld (YouTube), as well as the venerable web classic How to Dance Properly by ZeFrank.
• Swarf is a luscious vocal/electronic band from the UK. I suspect their name comes from the industrial jargon, which are shavings and leftover bits from metalworking. I learned of them through Warren Ellis' site, and have kept up with their stuff through LJ, where their lead singer keeps her blog, and in_the_lathe, where Swarf posts band news. They offered their music for online purchase through the now-defunct mp3ria without DRM; if you're interested in hearing them, there are clips and free live tracks at their site and full songs can be heard through their MySpace player. But no one in their right mind recommends a visit to MySpace. (shudder)
• The two-character entry at the end of my list is "Nihon" (or the older pronunciation "Nippon") which means "Japan." The pronunciation of those characters in Chinese, "Jipang" provides the international pronuciation of my host country's name.

LJ icons:
When I first joined LJ I just did it to read friends' journals. I was convinced that there was nothing but abject misery, whining, and drama going on here. Choosing Derek Zoolander as a theme for my LJ icons was meant to be self-mocking. I trot out Magnum whenever I say something that is lewd, biting, or hoped-to-be-perceived as insightful. Furious, from the movie Mystery Men, is for when I'm spazzing out about a topic, or making fun of myself for getting worked up over nothing.

Jungle Helicopters, Hawtness, and Kittehs

Memory is like a strange muse and annoying bitch all at once. She fails me in crucial instances and leaves me looking stupid at times, and other moments she fills with melifluous joy and strangeness. I love those times when I am so sleep deprived that I suddenly recall a dream I had years ago in the middle of the day, possibly because my brain is trying to enter REM sleep while I am awake. Because of my unusual brain chemistry, this can happen very very easily, like if I get less than six hours of sleep a few days in a row. Yes, I need to watch my sleep intake the way a diabetic watches what they eat, or some bad things start to happen. Jacob's Ladder stuff.

I think Glasses Chains give a girl that hot librarian look. redmomoko is a librarian, so it works for me.

Moggies, which is what some Brits call cats, are one of the things that make life bearable. If I go on to say how much cats and their silly antics enrich my life, postpone suicide, and make joy happen, it could go on for pages, so I will stop there

Plushbus is one of those dumb ripoff "crane picks up cheap toy made in china" games I saw at the local overpriced lame cinema with the emetic popcorn. Because we have so many longstanding jokes about plush cats and such, that word is loaded with humor.

'Stripes is a close-up of a picture posted by the person who has that user ID, so naming it that was my way of crediting them for that incredibly Hawt pic. But if they ask me to erase my copy and stop using it, I will of course.

JustSayNo is an icon I found on some Russian site that I added just to get rev_e to disapprove of it and post his 'NO!' icon, because the dominatrix who is bondaging her teddy bear is just oh-so-wrong.
