Man knew he had TB before flying to Europe - CNN.com: (via [livejournal.com profile] super_nyanko )
The man, who is quarantined at an Atlanta, Georgia, hospital, told the Atlanta Journal Constitution that Fulton County health officials had said they "preferred" he not travel, but knew about his plans for an overseas wedding and honeymoon.

i also like how he wouldn't accept treatment in italy. it's not just that he traveled, but at every turn, he did something to further endanger people and not cooperate.

I know, this really pisses me off too. I suspect we're not alone; the story's been front and center in the American media for days. I feel bad flying when I know all I've got is a head cold!

He said he sneaked back into the country because he feared "an unsuccessful treatment in Italy would have doomed him," the newspaper reported.

Doomed him to what? A prolonged quarantine in Italy and an eventual flight back to the US on a diplomatic plane? What the hell?

It's probably most likely to be (U.S.) American snobbery that imagines the rest of the world to be have all of the sophistication of a village shack in Columbia or a missionary outpost in Uganda. Aka, the reason is either ignorant bullshit or just a plain bullshit excuse. If he honestly believed what he said, he must be the kind of U.S. tourist that other tourists want to apologize for.

That's weird... what I SAID was "I would so prefer Italian hospital food myself".

The thing is the guy knew he had *something* bad before he even left the states-- he decided to go anyway. I think the guy is an arrogant fuck that should be heavily procecuted, that said I also think the CDC dropped the ball. Or our government in general. People with that kind of illness shouldn't be told just that they "shouldn't" travel, they should be told that it would be *illegal* for them to travel and to do so would be punishable by jail time and serious fines-- I mean, isn't it willfull endangerment? Think of all the old people or babies that are on planes... There may be multiple deaths because of this fuckball.

Yeah yeah-- my original point was that the CDC fucked up too. Then I got sidetracked by my own anger :)
