I wonder if the Utada Hikaru song is going to be part of the show.

It wouldn't surprise me; I think she covered that tune some time ago, but that might be a newer version.

She's done work for anime and videogames; Distance/Simple and Clean was used for Kingdom Hearts, and her newer music has been used in that ongoing Katsuhiro Otomo CG-fest that Cup Noodle has been co-marketing with.

I used to get "Simple and Clean" stuck in my head for days.

...and do you think the plot's supposed to be later on in their lives? Everyone looked just a little bit older, and it would seem odd to retell the same story.

The first time I heard that was on the floor of the Tokyo Game Show, for the first Kingdom Hearts game. It seemed like the game would not only provide a wealth of new fans for Square games via the Disney characters, but would springboard Utada into the mainstream scene in the USA.

I guess I'm not /always/ right.

It looks to me like they're retelling the same story again. I'm not opposed to that if they fix the ending and perhaps look into more of the story that happened before the series. This is such a hard series to get people into based on the first few episodes.

Yeah, when I watched the first few eps, it seemed like a "boy and his giant robot" anime story - typical. Only when he gets messed up by fighting his best friend who's trapped in a "possessed" robot did I start to think, Whoa, this is pretty heavy shit...

This really looked like just a fan trailer to me... 95% of the footage was pulled from episodes, and there was maybe like 3 seconds total of original but minimalistic CG work.

IMDB does show something new as allegedly being released next month in Japan though, so maybe I'm full of crap.

If ya look /real/ carefully, you'll notice some art differences in rendering style, and a much higher cel-count than was in the TV series, or even the previous movies.
