Have had a nasty cold since Monday. Worked through it on Tuesday, but fled early on Wednesday and took all of Thursday off. Went in for a TV meeting with the client and our director of PD this morning, put out any on-fire emails in my Inbox, prepared some new data for my programmer, bailed at lunchtime and passed the hell out for three hours. Feeling pretty out of it. I've had a low-grade fever (37.4ºc) for the whole week. I kinda wish my body would get serious about boiling out the virus and get to it. WHAMMO! 39ºc, let's GO already!

...actually, if I'm going to wish for something, I should just wish to be healthy again.

achoo!

I caught a cold; last week the wife and daughter had it. I wondered why I didn't get it. We had a milestone deliverable last night, which we managed. Today I woke up with a sore throat, sneezing, and some aches.

I'm posting these so I can monitor tagged entries to find how often I catch what's going around. Nothing to see here, move along.

Mainly just to keep track of my health: I've got a cold. I took off last Monday because I had the start of a cold, and wasn't sure if I'd caught the girl's influenza. It wasn't, and it wasn't much of a cold in the end.

But as of yesterday it hit normal cold symptoms: mild cough, runny nose and sneezing which hopefully won't lead to a sinus infection because those are not fun. No fever: 36.8 c.

I shouldn't have been showing off so much to [livejournal.com profile] hedr_goblin that I'd dodged the virus. :-/

Yesterday I took the day off because jetlag, allergies, and an impending cold were overlapping. Today the jetlag's done, but the cold has progressed to a mild sinus infection with headaches, and my allergies are worse. Woke up with my eyes gummed shut. Fuck it all.

Went home at 18:30 last night, and to bed at 21:30, as I had eaten a bit of bad sausage for brekkies in the morning. Spent the afternoon either in the head, or hallucinating that the buildings outside were waving at me.

For a guy who looks tough, it feels like my digestive system is constructed from tissue paper. Wet tissue paper.

I got back from GDC on Sunday evening. Went to work Monday morning. Tuesday I had a bad sneeze and cough, so I decided to try to preemptively kick the thing's butt by resting; I took the day off. Tuesday night, however, I was in even worse shape. This morning (Wednesday) I had a 38.7° fever, and went to the doctor. He tested me and said I've got influenza-A.

Shit.

Feeling much better, and am back at work today. Probably at about 80%, though clearly my head's not normal:
As I was trying to take my cold medicines (Japanese doctors always give out at least three different pills it seems) a co-worker engaged me in conversation; I pulled out my earbud headphones to hear her, then promptly tried to put one of the pills in my ear.

The cold caught up with me. I'm cracking my neck every five minutes; I should just go to sleep. I'm brain dead and tired, and all my joints ache. I had a fever of 38.4 last night, and have had smaller fevers occur and break today.

Want to play games or read, but don't have the brainpower. I watched "300" last night; it was more repetitive and preachy than I'd expected. I kept hearing how it could have benefited from being "more ambiguous" or "less direct" and now I understand what the reviews meant. Beautiful, gorgeous film with only a few shots that looked as though the group were being awkwardly greenscreened against a virtual set. I watched "Children of Men" today, and it redeemed my faith in cinema. Good grief, what an amazing film. It's ugly and beautiful, horrifying and inspiring all at once. I actually had to get up and walk away from it for awhile, to get my mental bearings back.

So, yes: sleep.  Now.

I'm up - not like toast, but up nonetheless. Two nights in a row of getting up every 40~60 minutes; it's a drag. And somehow despite sleeping I still managed to sleep wrong; the right side of my neck has a golfball-sized knot in it to which I've applied a dermal patch. Still, my cough has largely abated, my nose is mostly clear, and in general I'm at about 70% capacity compared to Mon/Tues, when I was more like 30%.

Seriously, I couldn't read text on a screen, or even larger print in the hardbound Spook Country which I'm muddling through at a glacier pace. i watched DVDs instead )

Caught a cold; missed yesterday; missed today at work. Saw the doc yesterday; he says it's a cold. Unfortunately it's a cold which The Boy and The Wife managed to kick the hell out of before it took hold of them. Man, what's with my immune system?

doomed

My eyes feel like they've had rubber cement and fine powder poured under the lids. I am squinting like Popeye, only it shifts from eye-to-eye, wrinkling my nose in the interim. A nose which is running, I should add. I am irritable, full of pollenated badness. And it's raining today, so this is supposedly with a low pollen count.

I am so doomed.

It is worth noting as well that the rains today are taking the blossoms from all the beautiful cherry trees and depositing them in a pulpy, pink mulch on the street, before I have managed to take in any hanami this season. I will have my revenge in the form of summer's rooftop or riverside beergardens.

There are days I wonder if Benadryl works super well on my allergies, or if it makes me so drugged-out and blissfully stupid that I forget I have allergies.
