Just got a progress report which claimed something had been フックアップ. It took me a moment to realize that it wasn't "fucked up" but rather "hooked up."

Language within the family though, that's another discussion. It's strange not sharing a native tongue with my own kids.

I have to admit that seeing our フェイシャル仕様 also makes me giggle in the same way that seeing makes most westerners chuckle when they see "bukkake udon."

well, that word makes me laugh in english, or it did for awhile when it took on its sexual meaning.

Yeah, wouldn't "fuck(ed) up" be: ファックアップ
If transcribed the way Japanese speak.

As always, this reminds me of a story:
There was a small remodeling supply store in Tokyo near where I used to live that had a sign that said "今田リフオーム" (except here picture a small 「フ」instead of a small 「オ」, obviously I can't write it with a normal keyboard).

Obviously the sign painter wasn't the most literate of folk. Used to drive my wife nuts whenever we'd pass it.

a small フ? that doesn't even exist.

Exactly. The sign painter == literacy challenged.
